Topophilia
Topophilia means a love of place - an emotional bond between people and the landscapes that shape them, where geography becomes intertwined with memory, identity, culture, belonging, and well-being.
Fragments of natural landscapes and skies that have shaped and enriched my life combine with imagined elements that express my changing sense of grief, identity, and belonging as someone who has rebuilt my life multiple times across literal and figurative borders. Vertical divisions slice through the skies and lands of these paintings, echoing both the visible and invisible boundaries we live within - geopolitical borders, social constructs about identity, physical limitations, and the inflexible patterns of thought that can confine us. Yet where colours bleed and textures meet are moments of connection, hope, and renewal.
Through the language of colour, texture, and reassembled fragments, Topophilia reminds us that belonging to each other and the earth is not about geography but about working together to create living, evolving relationships that are tended, re-imagined, and recreated, again and again. That our social worlds, just like our natural ecologies, thrive with diversity, and that nature itself shows us how to transcend boundaries, regenerate, and heal.
