TOPOPHILIA: Landscapes of Belonging - Solo Exhibition, Utrecht (Jan-Apr 2026)

About the exhibition

The term topophilia - first used by poet W. H. Auden and later popularised by geographer Yi-Fu Tuan - describes the emotional bond between people and the landscapes they inhabit. This series of abstract artworks depicting inner and outer landscapes reflects on how we create and re-create belonging through our evolving relationships with each other, with the earth, and with ourselves.

Working with collage, recycled materials, and acrylic paint, belonging is presented as a living process - a recurring cycle of coming apart and putting the pieces back together again in new ways. Mirroring my creative process, Topophilia offers a dialogue between poetry, reflection, and visual art, encouraging viewers to consider how nature teaches us to thrive in diversity and to heal across boundaries.

Mooie en uitdagende expositie. Zet ze self aan het voelen en denken. (Beautiful and challenging exhibition. It makes you feel and think.)
Mooie verrassende expositie cadeautje op mijn wandeling. Ik kom weer nog eens kijken. (A beautiful, surprising exhibition, a little gift on my walk. I’ll come back again to look once more.)
As an adoptee I especially loved your theme and deep, underlying messages and understandings of adoption.
Your art moves me and makes me feel like I belong in your world. Thanks for your wonderful perspective on life.
What an extraordinary body of work. How special to see it displayed in such a beautiful space. And to ponder our connections to this new landscape and to many shared spaces.

Catch a glimpse of the exhibition opening

Thank you to the fabulous group of friends, artists, art-lovers, nature-lovers, and inner landscape explorers who joined us to celebrate the opening of TOPOPHILIA at Museum Hoge Woerd on 16 January. You can watch the reel on my Insta.

Can’t make it to Utrecht to visit the exhibition?

It's impossible to capture all the textures and nuanced colours of the artworks in photos and the exhibition venue is top-notch, so go see it in-person if you can. But if you can't get to Utrecht, don't worry, I've got you. You can view the exhibition online.
