The struggle, surprise, and empowering meaning in working with creative constraints

I created these little abstract landscapes out of recycled bits and pieces from my studio (see my Insta post to find out exactly what I’ve used).

I enjoy the struggle and surprising in creating art using only found materials. The constraints of such an exercise always lead to unexpected new ideas.

I love the search - for colors, textures, and shapes that delight me, for pieces that bring out the best in each other.

I love how it helps me develop my composition skills, offers me new approaches to abstraction, and gives me new ideas for mark-making.

And, as someone living with disabilities, I love the empowering metaphors and reminding myself that limitations - though a frustrating struggle at times - can always still be used to create something beautiful and meaningful.

My studio “scraps,” now exhibited in a Berlin Museum!

My little artwork, “Salty Splashes and Cherry Gelato” was selected for Museum Haus Des Papiers’ exhibition in Berlin, “Collage - Fläche und Farbe” (“Collage - Surface and Colour”). The exhibition runs from 12 June until 6 December 2026. Full details here.
